Default How Nic proposed to me

Background information: the day is 12/07/2003, a Saturday. I was to have all my wisdom teeth taken out 4 days later - so I was under the impression it was a "Spoil Shelley cause she wasn't going to eat well for a while" day and that I was going to the Sydney Art Galley with a mystery nice dinner - so was to dress nicely.

Nic was due to pick me up at 2pm that day and I was just finishing my makeup when he arrived. I opened the door and was asked "Is your mum home?" "No" I replied puzzled, "Good" and he dashed back to the car and came back with a big gift bag. "What's this?" I asked "I felt like spoiling you" with a shy grin Nic replied. I opened and squealed. In it was the latest Harry Potter (No. 5), Flower fairy books of the seasons and - most importantly of all - the rest of the collection of Trixie Belden I had been collecting - over 17 books I had left to collect and they were out-of-print. "Not allowed to cry, not allowed to cry" I sobbed. The fact he had went to all that effort really touched me and I didn't want to ruin my makeup. After picking up the Harry Potter book - for just in case - we set off for the city (Sydney).

While we were nearing the city, Nic asked me "Would you like to know where we are having dinner?"
"Yes, where?"
"At Sir Stamford on the Quay."
"Ooooh, that sounds nice, I've never been there before. I can't wait to get to the Art Gallery. All those paintings!!" I replied.

We ended up at the Gallery at 3pm, and stayed there until it closed at 5pm. We went through all the paintings, looking at every single one including their little plaques. At the time, the sketches by Rembrant were on display, so I was very happy. During our time there, I backed/bumped into Nic and felt a little square box in his pants. 'Maybe he might propose to me', I thought 'No. He promised to propose at the end of the year.' I put it out of my mind and just enjoyed my time with Nic.

After the Art Gallery had closed, we had about an hour to go before we were due at the restaurant for our dinner reservation. Nic and I drove around for 15 mins looking for a car parking station. We went past 5 of them until we found one that lasted til 1am. "Why do we need to have a station that goes that late? We are having dinner at 6, its not going to take that long!" "I just want one so we don't have to worry about the time" Nic replied. So after we had parked, we had 1/2hr to kill, so I took a nap, and Nic read the Harry Potter that I had brought with me.

So at about 5:50pm, we left the carpark and headed towards the restraunt. "Wow. This is beautiful!" We had walked into a room that was tastefully done in evergreen green with touches of gold. Classical music was playing in the background and there was a large chandelier hanging from the center of the room. We were lead to a candle-lit window table and given a menu. We are big desert eaters, so we didn't get an entree. Nic chose a chicken dish, while I chose duck. We also got a small serving of a beautiful potato and leek soup. It was divine, and Nic - not a big soup eater - also thought it was delicious. While waiting for dinner to arrive, Nic pulled out a little box from his pocket and placed it in front of me. In it was a 9ct white gold ring, with 5 little stars indented into it. In each of those stars was a blue topaz. "This is your promise ring." Nic said," I promise that I will engage you soon." I, once again, tried not to cry.

We recieved dinner and it was as delicious as it looked. Half-way through dinner, Nic asks me "How can I spoil you more?" "More?" I thought. "Opera? Classical Music?" said I, knowing that there was a free concert in Darling Harbour starting at 8pm. Nic wasn't interested in that kind of thing, so if he was willing, then so was I! "How would you like to listen to some classical music?" he asked, I nodded yes, then asked in a small voice "Where?" "At the Opera House. And the seats aren't B or C class either" was the reply. "What other seats are there?" "A-class seats." All Nic got was a stunned look. Then a hug and a squeal, and me not trying to cry again. We ordered dessert of icecream/gelato and I just had to go to the ladies to check my make-up (because of the not crying thing). Then we were off to the Opera House.

Nic had chosen the site of our dinner well, as it was approx. a 5 min walk to the Operal House from there. So we got there in plenty of time. Before the concert, I kept saying to Nic, "This is the best dream I've ever had. Don't pinch me, I don't want to wake up." I also gave him lots of hugs and kisses on the cheek as thankyous. And you definitely couldn't keep the smile off my face throughout the whole concert. When we were finally allowed to enter, it turned out that our seats were smack in the middle, 6 rows from the front. Nic had made sure that I (who am moderately hearing impaired) would not miss a note of the concert. While we were sitting down, I whispered to Nic "I don't know how you are going to top this in 6 months time." - referring to Nic constantly (and I mean constantly) telling me that I would either get a ring under the Christmas tree, or on the car seat at the end of the semester.

During the intermission, Nic asked me would I like to go outside to look at the Harbour afterwards, to which I replied very ladylike "Duh, I would've dragged you if I had to." So afterwards, we went outside and looked across the Harbour together. After a while I noticed the time was 10:30, and that we had better go home. “Can I have a hug?” Nic asked. We had a nice long hug, after which Nic pulls back, looks me in the eye and :

Nic said .... "Michelle Naomi Tyson will you marry me?"

Shelley said .... "When there's a r " ring appears, choking sounds x 3, a very strained "yes" and bursts into tears

That was a touching story Shelley and trust me when I say you were lucky marrying Nick. He has been so kind and dedicating over the years, and has shown me that he is a loving person with the kindest heart ever! ^^

Great story! ok heres mine but first a little background: I met my fiancee May 3, 2008 when her then gf and my best friend Brittany were dating. Brittany introduced us over yahoo messanger thinking it would be a good thing for me & cierra to know eachother. Well after that we continued talking every day and hung out almost every weekend. I got pregnant with my twin girls in September and my ex, their father, left as soon as I told him. Brittany & Cierra were still dating but by that point Brittany & Cierra were fighting constantly because Brittany was getting jealous over absolutly nothing and Cierra & I though not sure when our feelings changed from friendship to more had started falling for eachother big time. Brittany & Cierra broke up on November 15th and I started dating Cierra on November 22nd. Now here's the proposal story. It was June 6th 2009. I had just put the girls to bed (they were 5 days old) and went upstairs to upload their hospital pictures to my computer. I was signed into my yahoo even though I didnt remember logging in that day. Cierra is on her yahoo through her cell phone and she IMs me with "babe we need to talk" which to me is the scariest phrase you can say in english. so after a few deep breaths and a quick prayer that she wasnt going to break up with me I say "what's going on baby girl?" it takes her forever to type it out during which time my heart is pounding out of my chest. Her reply was "Ashleigh Taylor MacCracken. That's the name of the girl I fell in love with. I want to be here to see the girls grow up as I grow old with you. I want to be the one who gets to hold you in my arms all night, wake up next to you every morning and kiss you whenever I feel like it. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Turn around babe" I spin around and there's Cierra. She's down on one knee with a ring out she grabs my hand and says "Will you marry me?" I start crying and scream "Yes!" Then she slips the ring on my finger and we kiss.
